After completing P.h.D in Economics from University of Houston, TX, USA, Hatice joined to Massey University in July, 2008 as Seniour Lecturer. During Ph.D, she lectured in University of Houston as a Teaching Fellow for several undergraduate classes. In January 2022, Hatice is promoted to Professor level at Massey University specializing in Applied Econometrics.
Her research broadly focused on applied time series econometrics and international finance. Having a solid advanced econometrics background combined with an application to financial data in her PhD, she progressed by expanding her experience in applied econometrics. Through collaboration, she was able to assist others lacking the technical skills by applying the latest techniques over a wide range of topics including finance (exchange rates, equities, and assets), macroeconomics (income smoothing and bilateral trade), aviation (airport efficiency, forecasting air travel demand), tourism economics, agricultural economics (dairy industry), and banking (financial performance of micro finance institutions), property (windfarms and property values) and microeconomics ( understanding drop out rate in high schools level).

Some of her current research involves development of new techniques and investigation of econometric/modelling issues. These are significant for all social sciences, in addition to their application to financial data. Her work has been tested before international audiences and it stands up well to criticism at high-level conferences including American Economic Association meetings (AEA/ASSA) (in 2010, 2011, and 2012 with different papers), Financial Management Association (FMA) (in 2012) and European Financial Management Association (EFMA) (in 2012) annual meetings, INFINITI, Southern Economic Association conference, NZAE conference, NZESG meetings just to count a few. She also contributes to research with serving on editorial boards of 5 journals and supervising many PhD/MSc students.
